I first heard of Insoc in 1989 when the local NY city dance music station began playing 'What's On Your Mind'. There was something cool about hearing Star Trek samples in a song, and I had to have that album. In any case my friends and I played that tape many times on our homemade Radio Shack car speaker systems. The band produced 3 albums before breaking up. Recently the band has been revived as a one-man endeavor by band 'leader' Kurt Harland. I was skeptical that this would be a good thing, but was I wrong. The latest album, "Don't be afraid" is the best Insoc album ever. Fans of industrial music should absolutely check this out, it's truly fantastic stuff. I can't wait to see what Kurt comes up with next. |

I hate to admit that the only reason I bought Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" album was because of the limited edition Lum keychain. (Which I still have) There's something endearing about a guy who sings about cartoon and comic book characters. Matthew's music is very direct, classic 4 piece rock band stuff, which I like- especially because I can play the basslines relatively easily. Matthew's music tends to be fairly nice music but with a bit of an evil twist. Listen to the last two lines in "Girlfriend" if you don't know what I mean. Most people don't catch that! |

While I would hardly consider myself a big new age music fan, I can honestly say I've always enjoyed the music of Enya. She is a master of sophisticated electronic melody. The haunting beauty of her music is really quite impressive to me. Despite the fact that, as my sister would put it, it is "that Celtic 'Memory of Trees' crap" Enya music has that "neo-romantic" flair that I find appealing. And, lets face it, you have to admire someone who can sing in languages like Celtic and Latin. |

Chicago is perhaps the greatest american rock band of all time. Well, at least I think so. While they are perhaps most noted these days for their "power ballads" of the late 1980's, most people don't know that these guys have been rocking (and touring!) for over 30 years. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live finally, and despite the fact they are as old as my parents they still know how to deliver a solid concert. If I had to pick one band as my favorite, Chicago wins hands down. |

The former bass player for Chicago, Peter Cetera's solo career actually began in 1981 with his obscure (but good) self titled album (which I have as a rare Japanese import CD, by the way) When he split with Chicago in 1988, the futures of both bands seemed uncertain. After all, Chicago's hit songs of the 80's were almost all Peter Cetera songs- but when Chicago 18 and Peter Cetera's Solitude/Solitaire album were released, it was quite obvious both would survive. Although Peter is often lumped in the same musical category as people like Michael Bolton (yuck) there is a distinct difference- Peter has talent. His ballads and cute songs about his daughter are sure to please. |

If you don't know who Weird Al is, you've obviously been
in a bomb shelter since the 1980's. There's not much I need to say about
Al, he's a comic genius and a killer accordion player. You can learn a
lot more about Al at his official website:

I'm not sure what to say about REM, I guess you either love them or hate them. But if you are like me, you love them a lot more from 1992 and earlier. I find I like their stuff less and less as time moves on. However, their old stuff is fantastic. I especially love the nonsensical lyrics- it's fun trying to figure them out! And yes, as my sister wants to point out: she did introduce me to them. Are you happy now, Rachel? |

OK, yes, everyone knows that song, but it is undoubtedly the best T'pau song. T'pau has two albums (that I know of) and both are quite good. It's kind of pop-romance stuff, a little bit dated, but hey- I'm an 80's dude anyway. I don't know much about the band so I can't really say much except that I like them... so there. |

Sci-fi + British comedy = Red Dwarf! |
|
Red Dwarf is quite possibly the best TV show- excuse me, TV programme- ever made. Follow the exploits of Dave Lister, space bum. 3 million years from Earth, he is the only survivor of a terrible accident caused by his 'smeghead' bunkmate, Arnold Rimmer. Check out the links below for more info~ |

Over 10 years of comedy, and still going strong. |
|
The Simpsons has been a consistent performer for over 10 years. This alone is astounding. However, even to this day, The Simpsons is one of the few shows that will make me stop what I'm doing and watch. Few shows are as clever and truly funny as The Simpsons is. I remeber the Tracey Ullman short 30 second episodes, how about you? |

Welcome to the world of tomorrow! |

What's better than one Groening show on Fox? How about two? Futurama certainly combines a lot of the things I like about the Simpsons- kooky characters, goofy, sarcastic, and ironic humor, and a vision of the future that only Groening could create. I really think I'm going to enjoy this one! |

Monty Python is a lot of things. Crass, brilliant, silly, obnoxious, controversial, and just plain stupid. What's not to like? I've watched and continue to watch too much of it. Whenever it's on I have to stop and watch it, no matter how many times I've seen it. Oh, and those movies are just fantastic, especially Monty Python and the Holy Grail. British comedy at its best. No it isn't. Yes it is! |

Unless you haven't been paying attention, the X-Files has become a world wide phenomenon. Truly a modern masterpiece of dramatic fiction, you can't help but pay attention to this show. And the fact that Gillian Anderson is a babe doesn't hurt either! |
