How I got involved in this mess
(or, the slippery slope of anime fandom)
This is not the tale of a fateful trip, but if you're wondering, this is the tale of how I found out about Lamune & 40. It started back in 1990. My buddies Rob & Chris Hull had gotten me back into anime after a long hiatus after Robotech went off the air way back when. Rob had taken a trip to Japan, and was there around August/September of that year. While he was there he taped lots of TV shows, which he shared with us when he got back. Like everyone else at the time, I was into the Ranma thing, and I was happy to get some "real" episodes back then. He had taped lots of stuff but I wasn't really interested at the time. Fast forward about 1 year. Rob was away at school, but Chris was home and bored, so I came over for a visit and he was at the time half-watching this show with a short, violent red haired girl with big ears, a spaced-out girl with glasses, and a silly hero with a weird thing on his head fighting a pair of idiotic enemies. The show caught my attention, and I borrowed the tape. I warn all of you that this show, if you suffer from the same mental illness that I do, is more addictive than crack. I asked Rob about why he didn't show it to me, to which he replied that he thought it "sucked". Go figure. Anyway, I had those 3 or 4 episodes for a while until one day when I accidentally bulk erased the tape. OOPS! Since fan interest in the show was slim to none, it was hard to find anyone with the source material. It wasn't until relatively recently that I was able to get hold of all the episodes and OAV's.
The purpose of this website
(you do not understand, but you will...)
The functions of this website are manifold. One, it serves as a tribute to my favorite anime series. It also serves as a tribute to the man behind the story and characters, Takehiko Ito. It serves to enhance the knowledge of this show and what it is about to the English-speaking anime freaks out there. It is my belief that this series is truly underrated and deserves more attention than it has gotten. And, compared to the garbage that fandom seems to attach onto, it seems only fair Lamune & 40 should get a website worthy of the more popular titles. It also serves as a point to the web-design freaks, the fancy boys, and the elite Japanese fans out there that a network administrator from New Jersey can make a good web page.
How this thing was made
